Sandown, Isle of Wight
Sandown, the Island's largest and most popular seaside resort, is located in the South East of the Island and boasts stunning views of the English Channel and a beautiful long, wide sandy beach ever popular with families.
A wide promenade runs adjacent to the beach and stretches all the way to the neighbouring resort of Shanklin, passing through Lake on the way. This makes a wonderful place for a stroll or for the more energetic - a jog or cycle. For an alternative view on your way back there is a stunning cliff top walk that links between Sandown and Shanklin and offers a more panoramic view of the sea.
Running adjacent to the seafront you'll find Sandown's quaint town where you'll find one or two High Street brands but also, refreshingly, a number of small independent shops and cafes selling popular souvenirs as well as clothes, shoes and accesories. Here you will also find express supermarkets and chemists.
On the seafront soak up the sun and hire a deck chair or sunlounger. You'll find these available all the way along the beach. Choose your place by it's convenience to your accommodation or car park, or walk further along the coast in either direction (towards Yaverland or lake) for a much less populated spot. For a more comfy day on the beach some hire companies provide a welcome mattress for your sunlounger. All of them also offer you parasols for a bit of shade from the summer sun as well as windbreaks to keep you protected from the sea breeze.
The sea in Sandown provides a safe place for bathing and fun for all your family. For the more adventurous why not hire a pedaloes or canoe? Further along the coast in Lake you will find the very popular Wight Watersports centre where you can enjoy as many watersport activities as you wish.
Sandown Pier is a very popular location and provides a wonderful place to take a break from the sunshine. Here you will find crazy golf, ten pin bowling, a cafe and amusements.
Further along Sandown seafront heading towards the stunning fossil rich Yaverland Beach you'll find the Isle of Wight Zoo, Dinosaur Isle and Browns Golf.
